A hand-painted portrait is a lasting way to celebrate your pet and create a keepsake you’ll treasure for years to come.
To reserve your commission, simply pay a deposit to get started. This secures your place in my order book and covers the initial materials and time required to begin your artwork.
Most portraits are completed within around one week, although this may vary during busy periods. Once I receive your booking, I’ll confirm your estimated completion date.
If you need your portrait for a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift, please email contact@michellegrayartstudio.co.uk before placing your order. I’ll be happy to let you know whether I can meet your deadline.

I want you to absolutely love your portrait.
Before requesting the final payment, I’ll email you watermarked photographs of the completed artwork for approval.
If something isn’t quite right, you’re entitled to one round of revisions free of charge. These revisions are intended for minor adjustments that remain consistent with my artistic style.
Any additional revisions requested after the first round will be charged at £30 each, and a revised completion date will be provided.
If, after seeing the completed portrait, you decide not to proceed with the purchase, you may decline the artwork. Please note that your deposit is non-refundable, as it covers the time and materials already invested in creating your commission.
Completion Dates
Every effort is made to complete your portrait by the agreed date.
If an unexpected delay occurs, I’ll contact you as soon as possible, and no later than 72 hours before the agreed completion date whenever possible.
In the extremely unlikely event that your portrait is not completed within two weeks of the promised completion date, you’ll receive a full refund, and I’ll still complete your portrait free of charge as an apology.
Thankfully, this situation is exceptionally rare, but I believe in standing behind my work and my commitments.

Choosing the Best Reference Photos
The quality of your reference photos has a huge impact on the finished portrait.
For the best results, please provide:
- Sharp, high-resolution photographs
- Well-lit images, preferably taken in natural light
- Clear views of your pet’s face and eyes
- Multiple photos where possible, as these help me capture their unique personality
If your images are blurry, heavily shadowed or low resolution, I’ll let you know before I begin. Please be aware that poor-quality reference photos can limit the realism and recognisability of the finished artwork.
Tips for Taking Great Photos of Your Pet
Get down to their eye level
Photographing your pet from their height creates a much more natural and engaging portrait while capturing more of their personality.
Use natural light
Soft daylight produces the most flattering results. An overcast day, open shade or a bright window indoors usually works far better than direct midday sunshine.
Get close instead of zooming
Rather than using your phone’s zoom, move closer to your pet. This preserves image quality and captures more detail for me to paint.
Focus on the eyes
The eyes are where personality shines through. A sharp focus and a catchlight in the eyes can make all the difference.
Use treats or toys
A favourite toy or treat can help capture an alert expression, playful pose or that unmistakable head tilt.
Send more than one photo
If you’re unsure which image is best, don’t worry—send several! I’m always happy to help choose the strongest reference, and seeing multiple photos helps me better understand your pet’s character.
